| | What did she like about Deakins photographs? "Portraiture today can be so constructed," she says. "Think of [the American portrait photographer] Annie Leibovitz, whose work is imaginative and exciting, but so theatrical, with the clothes, the make-up, the airbrushing. Deakin was the opposite. Theres nothing constructed about his photographs. They look like he couldnt be bothered to think them through. Thats mesmerising." | | | | Hogan Outlet (Hôte)
| | To watch all the recovered episodes now . The Enemy of the World will be released on DVD on 25 November 2013; The Web of Fear will be released on DVD early 2014Its most surprising moment, though, is a quiet one. A scene played between Troughton and a character called Astrid (Mary Peach), a daring secret agent and helicopter pilot who is crammed into a flying suit that mixes Regency buccaneer with the 1960s space age. She has been injured in a gunfight. The Doctor is dressing her wound. She asks him if his doctorate is in law or philosophy. "Which law?" he asks. "Whose philosophies?" Then she tries flattery; telling him how wonderful he is. He responds with childlike bashfulness another trait borrowed from . But then something else flashes in his eyes. It looks very much like lust. Remember the fuss a few years ago when appeared to ask Matt Smiths Doctor to go to bed with her? He demurred. This Doctor would have said yes.The storys writers, Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln, seem to have shaped their plot from the stuff of nightmares. There are images of which Buñuel or Dali would have been proud: a soldier collapsing to the ground, his face smothered with cobwebs; characters immobilised in a trance-like state, with nothing but a weird electronic thrum on the soundtrack; a cliffhanger that sees the Doctors () friend Jamie (Frazer Hines) on the platform at Monument station, attacked on two fronts by a glowing, bubbling mass of fungus. And between the moments of surreal horror, there is sly comedy in the form of a ghastly journalist (Jon Rollason) who regards alien invasion as a good source of copy. (A nice moment sees him pick an unwise fight with a female scientist whose red-brick education he mocks: somewhere, beyond the tunnels, the Sixties are in full swing.)The Nigerian haul is the most significant find for followers of the series in recent years. | | | | Carolina Herrera Online (Hôte)
