Head for Locorotundo, one of Puglia's whitewashed, hilltop towns and among the most beautiful spots in southern Italy, it does not have many specific tourist attractions, but the maze of ivory-stone lanes in its old town, with a pretty church at the summit, make for a delightful wander. The intimate Trattoria Centro Storico (just off the main square on Via Eroi di Dogali) is a good bet for lunch (approximately 20 euros each). Don't leave without sampling the local pale, dry, delicate white.
