?In theory,?I concur with the logic of both rulings,Michael Kors,?but I?question whether the rulings truly reflect reality. It';s hard to demand a race neutral evaluation in?a?society that isn';t race neutral and the high court essentially is asking the lower court to perform the impossible task of proving the negative. And while I think?pre-clearance requirements are somewhat outdated, I';m not persuaded that the voting rights violations?the law was intended to combat have ended and special protections are not still? needed. And I';m even more pessimistic about whether the current political?climate will allow Congress to conduct?a reasonable examination of what should constitute proper standards to trigger oversight.
