Recent research by WRAP (the Waste Resources Action Programme) estimates that UK households throw away 8.3 million tonnes of food every year. Food redistribution charity FareShare estimates that at least 10% of this is 'fit for purpose' - in date and edible. So we are wasting over 800,000 tonnes of perfectly good food.
