e3300eb16b6f8e5bae9c229bc9332b8bMaybe you prowl the aisles of little ethnic markets, looking for a great deal on cardamom or a big bag of miraculously tiny baby bok choy. Or you keep up with the latest restaurant openings, following talented chefs and booking the table of the moment. Or you pride yourself on turning up the most wonderful little under-the-radar Vietnamese or Mexican spot. Maybe you seek the best produce in peak season at a wonderful farmers market.

We can do this.Iowa Center St. I pity the country-music fan who wasn't at Gexa Energy Pavilion in Fair Park on Saturday night - because if you weren't there you missed one of the best shows of the summer if not the entire year If there's ever been a more powerful one-two musical punch than opening band and headliner in modern country music I've yet to see it It might have been unusually cool for August - with breezes and temps in the upper 70s by the time Urban went on it seemed more like a September show - but there was no denying the heat stirred up by LBT and Urban's talent and passionNewcomer who had a big hit with "Cowboys and Angels" off his eponymous 2012 debut CD started things off with a short well-received set Then came Little Big Town the powerhouse quartet that consistently sings the best harmonies in the business riding high from their breakout year (after 15 years and five albums together) with the gigantic success of their CD Tornado particularly the gazillion-selling No 1 single "Pontoon" which won the Grammy for best country duo/group performanceThe 45-minute LBT set was perfection from start to finish with standout turns from each band member: Phillip Sweet's lovely lead vocals on "Bring It On Home" Kimberly Schlapman's angelic sweetness on "Sober" the propulsive erotic energy of Karen Fairchild on "Tornado" and Jimi Westbrook's showstopping opening solo on "Boondocks" "Tornado" had Fairchild channeling a wicked combination of Stevie Nicks and Adam Lambert with her long air-tossed hair black leather pants and long-fringed jacket; that jacket really did make her seem like the frenetic center of a twister The crowd-pleasing backwoods anthem "Front Porch Thing" also stood outSchlapman made sure to introduce Dallas born-and-bred bass guitarist John Thomasson and to thank the crowd "for the best year of our careers We thank Texas the good lord and a song about a boat" she said to raucous cheers referencing the irresistible "Pontoon" which may have music's most coyly suggestive lyrics centered around the phrase "motor-boatin'"LBT would have made for a fabulous concert experience all on its own but we still had Keith Urban to look forward to and boy-oh-boy did he deliver The New Zealand-born Australian-raised singer-songwriter-guitarist has done anything but rest on his American Idol-hosting laurels continuing to grow as both a musician - he's one of country's best guitarists on both acoustic and electric numbers - and singer The crowd lovingly sang along to the current hit "Little Bit of Everything" from his upcoming CD Fuse due in stores Sept 10 but saved their greatest adoration for songs from his extensive catalog dating back to his solo American debut in 1999Urban started things off with the rousing "Long Hot Summer" then went right into one of his biggest hits "Sweet Thing" He slowed down with the mournful aching "Stupid Boy" then stopped for some crowd interaction including calling a young woman up onstage for the hug she had requested by waving a giant sign and a splendidly touching moment with a guy named Joshua who proposed to his girlfriend by reading some of Urban's lyrics to her It went on a bit too long and Urban finally hustled over and literally put the guy down on one knee to get on with it She said yes "Next somebody's gonna have a baby on this stage" Urban jokedAs always his show often swung more toward rock than pure country especially with "Even the Stars Fall 4 U" an electronica-infused ditty from Fuse He showed his trademark generosity by bringing Little Big Town back out for an exuberant "You're Gonna Fly" and then Lynch for "Kiss a Girl" and giving each of his band members solos I especially liked guitarist-singer Jerry Flowers' short version of Adele's "Rumor Has It" Keith also showed plenty of love for the back of the house not merely acknowledging the "hill people" on Gexa's grassy slope but plowing through the house not once but twice to sing sets back there Dude's brave - some of the female affection thrown his way veered dangerously close to "get a room" but he handled the hugs and kisses with grins and graceOther highlights from Urban's two-hour 20-song show included the vibrant "Days Go By" the romantic "Once In a Lifetime" (he charmed the crowd by mashing it up with "Deep In the Heart of Texas" and the gorgeously written break-up song "You'll Think of Me" The flashlight setting on people's cellphones - "fireflies" as Urban called them - beautifully lit the venue for the melancholy encore "Tonight I Wanna Cry" but he put people in a bouncy mood for the finale the energetic singalong "You Look Good In My Shirt" during which he gave a guitar to an audience memberEver the gentleman even as the lights came up and the crowd started filing out Urban remained onstage shaking hands and signing posters and T-shirts He's the genuine thing My only complaint about the entire evening He didn't sing either of the two -penned songs he made hits of "Raining On Sunday" and "I'm In"Nonetheless whenever Urban comes to town I'm definitely in And please somebody give Little Big Town a headlining tour statGuideLivecom is the go-see-do portal of the Dallas Morning News where you can find:Events - Movies - Music - Restaurants -But what about the fact that they differ so starkly?
