The contrast with Labour, and indeed the Lib Dems, will, they hope, become increasingly apparent. Ed Miliband adopts positions that intend short-term gain but have no long-term value. On the economy, on the 50p tax rate, on press regulation, his views cannot hold: will he really pledge to introduce a press law in Labour's manifesto? Or restore the 50p levy?

"I suddenly realised that how you dress and speak and eat are irrelevant. And I think its terribly sad when people beat themselves up about not keeping up with the Joneses. I just think that life offers so much more." However, she is protective of her upbringing. "People always say Ive rebelled against my background but the values I have today come from my parents justice, equality, decency and freedom of speech. They werent Blimpish it was just that they didnt know anyone from outside their class."

REPORTER: That is what I thought you would say.

Watching the above clip, I don't think Brown did anything wrong. He may look a bit callous for not making allowances for the fact that McIntyre suffers from Cerebral Palsy and just treating him as he would any other interviewee, but that's exactly how the interview should have been conducted. For Brown not to hold McIntyre to the same standard as he would any other person on the programme because he's disabled would be deeply patronising. After all, there's nothing wrong with McIntyre's brain.

"Im very open about the fact that I love certain aspects of hip hop, and that there are other aspects that I hate," she says. "This show tries to address that a bit." The cross-dressing, for instance, enables her to mock the misogyny that pollutes gangsta rap. "I dont like to get too political about it, but the analogy I would use is with football. To some people, football only means hooliganism, and hip hop only means gangsta rap. And the truth is that theres so much more to both of them."
