I'm baffled by the praise for Australian prime minister Julia Gillard's "demolition" of opposition leader Tony Abbott this week. Yes, Mr Abbott has said some misogynist things in the past, and it was smart of Ms Gillard to recite them when he was expressing outrage over the Speaker's sexist text messages. But instead of a quick put-down she delivered a 15-minute harangue at the pitch of a dentist's drill. Not to be rude, but how does the British-born Gillard get away with addressing the Australian public in a Pommie parody of a Sheila from the western suburbs? Telegraph blogger Brendan O'Neill reckons that, as a result of the video going viral, Julia Gillard has become "the Susan Boyle of the feminist lobby". That's nicely put, Brendan, but for God's sake don't give her any ideas.
