Laveen Ladharam asked two good questions. Firstly, is it not in our interest to have a decent eurozone? And secondly would it be better to have two such zones? I think the answers must be yes and yes, but it is clearly impossible to have a 17-, let alone 27-country eurozone that works. It might be possible to have two, but even then there are formidable difficulties in creating the two centralised governments that would be needed and making them democratically accountable. It is pie, perhaps mud pie, in the sky.

There were many rehearsals of rather tired arguments over whether Ukip is capable of making a breakthrough into Parliament. I suggest we wait and see, but Paul Weston wondered what would happen to Ukip if David Cameron pledged that if he won the 2015 election he would lead us out of the EU. Again, I do not know and he would have to satisfy voters that he would have enough votes in Parliament (despite Conservative defectors) to carry it through. There was much extravagant overstatement of both the case for and against Ukip but I thought that a britabroad's crude criticism of Farage and his colleagues drawing their pay from the European Parliament would be just as unjust and silly if applied to Scottish Nationalists at Westminster. The question asked by dohadude was whether Ukip had now become the flag-bearer of the ideas put forward many years ago by The Freedom Association and the Monday Club. To a large extent I think that is true, but certainly not 100 per cent.
